The East Coast of Sri Lanka is blessed with unspoiled beaches that can lay claim to being some of the best in the entire world. Passikudah is a small bay that stretches to an area of a 2km wide beach fully protected by a shallow natural off shore reef and home to a large variety of tropical fish and exotic coral reefs. The beautifully curved bay with extremely shallow crystal clear water is renowned as having one of the longest stretches of shallow coastlines in the world. The water level of the sea being only few inches deep with a relatively weak current makes it one of the exceptional beaches where it is possible for people to walk at least half a kilometre into the sea at most points. With scattered colourful coral communities within the bay it is known as a haven for watersports, diving and snorkelling that hotels in Passikudah amply thrive on attracting countless adventure enthusiasts.
